REAL Woman Wednesday: Aging

This time last year I was busy ruminating about turning fifty…the BIG Five-O. A mid-life crisis as I thought about all the things I had not accomplished. I worried that the sands were quickly disappearing through the hourglass of my life.

Oh, what a difference a year makes!

I am not saying that year has been easy. Any of you who follow my blog with any regularity knows that the first half of 2016 in particular has been…challenging to say the least.

But with less than three weeks before my fifty-first birthday…I am actually looking forward to it. And to life in general.

I have come to truly understand and appreciate the saying…

Growing older is a fact of life. Growing up is optional.

Yes, I still dye my gray hair.

Yes, I am making lifestyle changes like eating better and going to the gym…cause I want to live long enough to irritate my grandchildren the way I have my children.

Yes, I still have my moments, my doubts and insecurities.

No, I have not ‘arrived’ yet.

But all in all, well this Tim McGraw song works as well for fifty-one as it does for thirty.

Yes, I am conquering all my adolescent fears.

And this years even more than last I do feel that I am ready to…

I think I’ll take a moment, celebrate my age
The ending of an era and the turning of a page.
Now it’s time to focus in on where I go from here.

I am lucky to be able to do that with family, friends and those I love the most.

As hard as this road has been…I wouldn’t change a thing.Because all of it has gone into making me the person I am…and I kinda like her and her craziness. Some of ya’ll must too, you keep reading my shit.

I promise to post birthday pics…if I don’t go dancing on no tabletops.
